Coming Up Next: Matt LePere, Confucius Institute for Global Finance at Baruch College and Douglas D.L. Chong, Hawaii Chinese History Center

In early December, 2017 Baruch College held a formal opening ceremony on December 6 to launch the New York Confucius Institute for Global Finance (NYCIGF@Baruch). The Institute is an extracurricular, non-degree educational collaboration between Baruch College, Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), and Hanban, an entity affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education.

In his opening remarks Baruch College President Mitchel B. Wallerstein, Ph. D., observed, “China is an important political and economic power—not just in Asia but throughout the world. Our goal is to provide all our students with a global perspective on world affairs and a critical awareness of the political and ethical issues that the world faces today.”

One of the Institute’s co-directors, Mr. Matthew LePere in New York City, will be my first guest on Conversations. We’ll hear about the mission of NYCIGF@Baruch, it’s programs and how you -our global audience- can learn more. This is a first-of-its-kind Confucius Institute that offers enhanced understandings of the dynamics between the American and Chinese global markets.

My second guest returns to us head of the Hawaii Chinese History Center in the heart of Honolulu’s Chinatown. Douglas D. L. Chong has been with us before. One of the time-honored traditions of Chinese culture -indeed, all cultures around the world- is the quest by individuals to discover their genealogical roots. There have been many scientific strides made available.

Experts have traced the earliest ancestors of today’s Hawaiian and other Polynesian peoples to the southern regions of China many, many thousands of years ago. We’re looking forward to Mr. Chong sharing a few remarks.

The Chinese Year of the Dog edges closer and closer by the day -and now you can purchase official United States Postal Service “Forever” stamps for the occasion!

Tune in for the Confucius Moment, Treasures of China, the Weekly Almanac and more!
