Coming Up Next: Connie Young Yu and Chinese Transcontinental Railroad Workers

Join me this coming Saturday, September 23 when I welcome by phone from San Francisco Connie Young Yu.

Writer, historian and lecturer, Yu has devoted her life and energies for more than a quarter of a century casting light on the history of Chinese and Asian America that has been overlooked.

She is a descendant of Chinese railroad workers who built the Transcontinental Railroad in the 19th century. Yu is also a Trustee Emeritus Board member of the Chinese Historical Society of America. She graduated from Mills College.

In this first of two conversations I asked Connie Young Yu to educate me and our listeners about those Chinese railroad workers who endured hardship, sacrifice and discrimination as no one had before.

Next week Yu will be back to share with us more of that amazing history -and what's being done to share the history and legacy of America's Transcontinental Railroad workers with the rest of the nation and the world. We'll hear about the Chinese Railroad Workers in North America Project at Stanford University, and more!

Tune in for the Confucius Moment, the Weekly Almanac of events and happenings, Treasures of China, Chinese Fun Facts and more.
