PRESENTS
THE THIRD EDITION OF THE FLYING TIGERS AND
THE SHARED AMERICAN AND CHINESE EXPERIENCE
OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR CONFERENCE
"HONORING OUR FATHER'S FLAGS"
父辈的旗帜
NOVEMBER 9 - 11, 2017 LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
In conjunction with the Aviation Nation's 70th Anniversary
of the USAF Air Show at Nellis Air Force Base
THE EVENT HAS THE SUPPORT AND ENDORSEMENT OF
THE CHINESE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA
Nearly two and a half thousand American airmen gave their lives to defend the Chinese people during the Second World War, and more than 250,000 Chinese, men, women and children lost their lives as a direct result of assisting American airmen who were either shot down or forced down behind Japanese occupied Chinese territory.
The story of the American Airmen who are now known to history as the Flying Tigers and the Chinese people whom they were sent to defend, and fight alongside with, is one of the most remarkable stories of cooperation, personal sacrifice and lasting friendship to have emerged from the horror, destruction and tragedy of the Second World War.
The participants of our "Honoring Our Father's Flags" symposium will examine, explore and share the experiences of their fathers, the American airmen who battled the ferocious military might of Imperial Japan, and the Chinese soldiers and civilians who bravely stood against, endured and tenaciously resisted one of histories cruelest military invasions.
Additionally, working is close cooperation with the Chinese American Citizens Alliance at its national level and at it Las Vegas base Lodge, the event will focus attention on the importance of supporting the passage of:
THE CHINESE AMERICAN WORLD WAR II
VETERANS CONGRESSIONAL
GOLD MEDAL ACT
Despite fewer than 120,000 Chinese Americans living in the United States during the Second World War, more than 20,000 served alongside their fellow Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen in all the major combat theaters that their fellow Americans served and fought in.
Due to the racially discriminatory laws of the period, many who served, were unable to hold citizenship until midway through the War.
Our event's "Father's Legacy" symposium will highlight the Second World War experiences of several Chinese Americans who saw active service in China as members of the United States Army Air Forces and the United States Army.
The membership of the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation is committed to supporting the passage of the Chinese American World War II Veterans Congressional Gold Medal Act, (H.R. 2358 / S. 1050)
Efforts of the SAAHF to promote the passage of HR 2358 and S. 1050 are being coordinated by the Chinese American Citizens Alliance.
In May, 2017, the Alliance established the Chinese American World War II Veterans Recognition Project to recognize and honor the Chinese Americans who served during this period with the Congressional Gold Medal. To date, it has resulted in the introduction of Chinese American WWII Veterans Congressional Gold Medal Act, cosponsored by Rep. Ed Royce (CA) and Rep. Ted Lieu (CA) as H.R. 2358 and co-sponsored by Sen. Tammy Duckworth (IL), Sen. Thad Cochran (MS) and Sen. Mazie Hirono (HI) as S.1050.
